On August 9, according to the Wall Street Journal, European and Ukrainian officials revealed that Russian President Putin proposed a comprehensive plan for a ceasefire in Ukraine to the Trump administration this week, demanding significant territorial concessions from Ukraine and pushing for global recognition of its claims in exchange for halting military actions. This week, European and Ukrainian officials stated that they are worried that Putin is merely using the proposal as a strategy to evade the new sanctions and tariff penalties that the US is about to impose.
