In the field of Crypto Assets, the Terra ecosystem has undergone a significant transformation, involving two closely related Tokens: LUNC and LUNA. To understand their relationship, we need to trace back to a crisis in May 2022.
At that time, Terra's algorithmic stablecoin UST lost its peg to the US dollar, triggering a series of chain reactions that ultimately led to the original LUNA token's value nearly reaching zero. In the face of this disastrous situation, the Terra community made a bold decision: to perform a hard fork of the blockchain.
This fork gave birth to two parallel blockchains. The original blockchain has been renamed as Terra Classic, and its native Token has also been renamed as LUNA Classic, abbreviated as LUNC. Meanwhile, a brand new blockchain Terra 2.0 has emerged, and its native Token retains the name LUNA.
Therefore, from a technical perspective, LUNC is actually a continuation of the original LUNA after the fork, rather than a forked coin in the usual sense. The new LUNA is a token issued based on a completely new blockchain. This unique evolutionary process has created a special "twin star" relationship between LUNC and LUNA, where they have historical roots and each represent different development directions within the Terra ecosystem.
