A Belgian court sentenced three kidnappers in an encryption kidnapping case to 12 years in prison each.
According to Mars Finance news, on July 4th, the Brussels criminal court in Belgium passed a judgment on a kidnapping case related to Crypto Assets. Three kidnappers were sentenced to 12 years each for the kidnapping of local crypto entrepreneur Stéphane Winkel's wife in December 2024 and demanding a ransom in Crypto Assets, and they are also required to pay the victim at least 1 million euros in civil compensation. Reports state that the mastermind of the case has not yet been captured. Although the victim was rescued by the police in a timely manner, she suffered severe physical and mental trauma, leading the Winkel couple to be forced to relocate. Winkel is the founder of the Crypto education platform Crypto Académie, which has 40,000 subscribers on its YouTube channel. After the incident, he stated that he would adjust his content strategy to focus on security education instead of wallet operational demonstrations.
